Ease of Living refers to improvement in citizens’ daily life through better housing, sanitation, electricity, drinking water, transport, financial inclusion, and digital governance. Between 2014 and 2026, India focused on citizen-centric schemes to reduce hardship and improve convenience. Secure homes, tap water, LPG, toilets, reliable power, roads, metros, and digital services strengthened dignity, opportunity, and public service delivery.

 

2. PMAY

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana aims to provide pucca houses to eligible urban and rural households. PMAY-U was launched in 2015, while PMAY-G began in 2016. Jal Jeevan Mission was launched in 2019 with the goal of Har Ghar Jal. It aims to provide functional household tap water connections to rural families. Rural tap water connections increased from 3.23 crore households in 2019 to over 15.86 crore households by June 2026. The mission improved water security, reduced women’s drudgery, and strengthened village-level water quality monitoring.

4. SwachhBharatMission

Swachh Bharat Mission was launched in 2014 to improve sanitation and eliminate open defecation. SBM-Gramin increased rural sanitation coverage from 39% in 2014 to 100% in 2019. Over 12.14 crore household toilets and 2.76 lakh community sanitary complexes were completed. SBM-Urban also improved city sanitation, waste collection, and scientific waste processing across urban local bodies.

5. Saubhagya

Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana, known as Saubhagya, was launched in 2017 to provide last-mile electricity connections to unelectrified households. By March 2022, about 2.86 crore households received electricity connections. The scheme improved lighting, education, household comfort, and economic activity, especially in rural areas, while supporting India’s broader goal of reliable power for all.

6.JanDhanYojana

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was launched in 2014 as a financial inclusion mission. It gave banking access to excluded citizens and became the first pillar of JAM Trinity. Accounts increased from 14.72 crore in 2015 to over 58 crore by June 2026. It enabled Direct Benefit Transfer, RuPay cards, savings, insurance access, and transparent welfare delivery.
